The value of x for maximum value of (3sinx+cosx)(\sqrt{3}\sin x + \cos x) is

A

30o

B

45o

C

60o

D

90o

Answer

60o

Explanation

Solution

The greatest value of 3sinx+cosx\sqrt{3}\sin x + \cos x is 3+1=2\sqrt{3 + 1} = 2 and

obviously it will be at x=60x = 60{^\circ}.

Aliter : 2(32sinx+12cosx)=2sin(x+π6)2\left( \frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}\sin x + \frac{1}{2}\cos x \right) = 2\sin\left( x + \frac{\pi}{6} \right)

As sinx\sin x is maximum at x=π2,x = \frac{\pi}{2}, so x+π6=π2x + \frac{\pi}{6} = \frac{\pi}{2} or x=π3x = \frac{\pi}{3}.
