Question
Chemistry Question on Concentration of ores
The sulphide ore of copper is concentrated by:
A
chemical method
B
froth floatation method
C
magnetic method
D
none of the above
Answer
froth floatation method
Explanation
Solution
All sulphide ores are concentrated by froth floatation method. In this process finely powdered ore, water and pine oil (or fatty acids) are mixed in a tank and agitated. Sulphide ore are wetted by oil particles and are carried to the surface by the foam. The gangue material which is preferentially wetted by water sinks to the bottom.
