Question

Question: The stomach has how many parts?...

The stomach has how many parts?

Explanation

Solution

The stomach is the most critical site in the process of food digestion. It contains several enzymes that are responsible for hydrolysis for many complex macromolecules. For digestion, the stomach is divided into different regions where the actual process takes place.

Complete answer:
Four regions of the stomach are:
1)Cardiac
2)Fundus
3)Body
4)Pylorus

1. Cardiac: It is the very first region of the stomach from where food enters it. It is situated just close to the esophagus.
Type of gland present in it: Cardiac gland
An enzyme secreted in it: Mucus
Role of Mucus: It protects the very delicate epithelial lining of tissues present inside the human body.

2. Fundus: It is situated above the body and alongside the cardia.
Type of gland present in it: Gastric gland
An enzyme secreted in it: Gastric Juice
Role of Gastric Juice: It prevents infectious agents (microorganisms) to enter the stomach body and eventually to the intestine, by deactivating them.

3. Body: It is the largest region of the stomach where Rugae (gastric folds) are present.
Role of Rugae in the body of the stomach: They are coiled tissues responsible for increasing the surface area when food enters the region.

4. Pylorus: It is situated close to the exit of the stomach and at the beginning (Duodenum) of the small intestine. It has smooth valves like muscle called a Pyloric Sphincter present in it.
Role of Pyloric Sphincter: They help to regulate the partially digested food before food enters the Duodenum.

Note: These four regions have different structures and glands present in them that perform some specific functions in a coordinated way. If one fails to perform in the normal way then the person can face stomach related problems.
