Question
Question: The stomach has how many parts?...
The stomach has how many parts?
Solution
The stomach is divided into several parts according to the position. They start from the part lying below the oesophagus to the part which lies above the duodenum, which is the start of the small intestine.
Complete answer: Stomach is one of the organs of our digestive system. It has four parts as follows:
-Cardiac: It is the part of the stomach that connects it to the oesophagus. The food pushed from the esophagus is received by this initial part. This region has multiple mucous glands that secrete mucus and protect the inner lining of the stomach from hydrochloric acid. Another set of cardiac cells are responsible for providing support and for the folding of the stomach.
-Fundus: this is the part of the stomach that is located on the left side of the cardiac. It is dome-shaped. It serves as the storage house for gas while digestion. Also unless the stomach is fully occupied with food, none of it is stored in this part.
-Body: it forms the main stomach and is located just below the fundus. It contains much deeper glands than cardiac and these glands continue as gastric pits.
-Pylorus: it is the funnel-shaped part of the stomach. It connects the stomach to the duodenum. This region contains special muscles called pyloric sphincter muscles which are responsible for moving food into the small intestine and making the stomach empty.
Additional information: An empty stomach is only as big as one’s fist. Other than digesting some important nutrients, the main function of the stomach is to hold the food and only pass a small amount into the small intestine at a time. It also does the function of the complete digestion of carbohydrates and the partial digestion of proteins.
Note: Stomach has four main parts- cardiac, fundus, body, and pyloric region. The main function of the stomach is to hold the food and only pass a small amount into the small intestine at a time.
