The sale of electric bulbs on different days of a week
Observe the pictograph and answer the following questions :

  1. How many bulbs were sold on Friday?
  2. On which day were the maximum number of bulbs sold?
  3. On which of the days same number of bulbs were sold?
  4. On which of the days minimum number of bulbs were sold?
  5. If one big carton can hold 9 bulbs. How many cartons were needed in the given week?
Answer

(a) Number of bulbs sold on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are 12,16,8,10,14,812, 16, 8, 10, 14, 8, and 1818 respectively.
(b) The maximum numbers of bulbs (i.e., 1818) were sold on Sunday.
(c) Equal numbers of bulbs (i.e., 88) were sold on Wednesday and Saturday.
(d) The minimum numbers of bulbs (i.e., 88) were sold on Wednesday and Saturday.
(e) Total bulbs sold in the week = 12+16+8+10+14+8+18=8612 + 16 + 8 + 10 + 14 + 8 + 18 = 86
Since one big carton can hold 9 bulbs, we would require
869\frac{86}{9} ≈ 10 cartons
∴ 10 cartons were needed in the given week.
