Haemocyanin is a copper containing protein (non-porphyrin) respiratory pigment occurring in solution in haemolymph of arthropods and in many molluscs. It is blue when oxygenated and colourless when deoxygenated. Haemocyanins contain two copper atoms that reversibly bind with oxygen, changing between colourless deoxygenated form ( $CuI$ ) and the blue oxygenated ( $CuII$ ).
