Putting y = Y, x – 8/k = X, the equation is Y2 = 4.k4\frac{k}{4}.X.

∴ The directrix is X + k4\frac{k}{4} = 0 ie., x= 8k+k4=0\frac{8}{k} + \frac{k}{4} = 0

But x – 1 = 0 is the directrix. So, 8kk4=1k=8,4\frac{8}{k} - \frac{k}{4} = 1 \Rightarrow k = - 8,4
