Question
Chemistry Question on Thermodynamics terms
The heat of formation of water is 260kJ . How much H2O is decomposed by 130kJ of heat ?
A
0.25mol
B
1mol
C
0.5mol
D
2mol
Answer
0.5mol
Explanation
Solution
The reaction for the formation of water is as
H2+21O2→H2O ; ΔH=260kJ…(i)
On reversing E (i), we get
1 molH2O→H2+21O2;
ΔH=−260kJ…(ii)
∵ By 260kJ heat water decomposed =1mol
∴130kJ heat will decompose water =2601×130
=0.5mol
