A population is a group of individual organisms of the same species in a given area. A community is a group of populations of different species in a given area. An ecosystem is a whole biotic community in a given area plus its abiotic environment and biome is a major ecological community of organisms maintained under a particular climate zone. Coral colonies grow continuously in size by budding of polyps and often form extensive masses called coral reefs. Great barrier reef along the North-Eastern Australia is a biome. It is about 2000km long and upto 150km from shore.
