Question
Physics Question on Capacitors and Capacitance
The electrostatic capacitance depends on:
A
nature of conductor
B
size of conductor
C
thickness of conductor
D
color of conductor
Answer
size of conductor
Explanation
Solution
The capacitance (C) of a capacitor is a measure of the amount of charge (Q) stored on each plate for a given potential difference (V). ∴C=VQ farad. The capacitance is proportional to the surface area of the conducting plate and inversely proportional to the distance between the plates. Hence, it depends upon the size of the conductor, and not upon the nature of conductor, thickness or colour.
