The diagram given alongside represents the human heart in one phase of its activity. Study the same and then answer the questions that follow :
A. Name the phase
B. Which part of the heart is this phase? Give a reason to support your answer
C. Name the parts numbered 1 to 6.
D. What type of blood flows through the parts marked 1 and 2 respectively?
E How many valves are closed in this phase?
Solution
Hint:- The part of the human body that sends blood to the whole body through the circulatory system, sending nutrients to the tissues. It removes carbon-dioxide and other wastes from the blood.
Complete step-by-step solution:-
The answer is given as follows -
A. The given diagram represents the phase of ventricular systole.
The power generating phase of the cardiac cycle is ventricular systole. It takes place when the ventricle is contracting.
B. In the picture both semilunar valves are open. Therefore, both heart ventricles are contracting in this phase.
C. 1. Pulmonary artery
The artery that carries blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs for process of oxidation is known as pulmonary artery. There are two pulmonary arteries, the left pulmonary artery supplies the left lung whereas the right pulmonary artery supplies the right lung.
2. Aorta
The main artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. When blood leaves the heart through aortic valves, when the blood travels through the aorta, a cone shaped curve is formed. That delivers oxygenated blood to the brain muscles and other cells of the body.
3 Pulmonary vein
The vein that carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart is called pulmonary vein.
4. Left atrium
There are four chambers of the heart. Left atrium is one among them. It receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and the left atrium.
5. Semilunar Valves
It is located in the heart. Semilunar valves separate four chambers of the heart from each other so that oxygenated and deoxygenated blood do not mix together. As it can cause serious issues to an individual.
6. Right Ventricle
The chamber in the heart that is responsible for pumping Oxygen and deoxygenated blood to the lungs is known as right ventricle
D). Deoxygenated blood flows through the pulmonary artery on the other hand oxygenated blood flows through the pulmonary vein respectively.
E. In this phase Bicuspid and Tricuspid valves are closed. In order to prevent backflow of blood into the atrium.
Note:- The diagram shown above belongs to the human heart. Human heart has four chambers namely right ventricle, left ventricle, right atrium, and left atrium respectively. The diagram given above shows the phase of ventricular stroke.
