The blood vascular system of mammals is known as double vascular system because
A. A group of arteries carries oxygenated and other group of veins conducts deoxygenated blood
B. Oxygenated blood runs from the heart to different organs by one set of arteries while deoxygenated blood runs from the heart to lung by pulmonary artery
C. The two different systems never meet
D. All of the above
Solution
Blood vascular system consists of blood vessels such as arteries and veins, heart, blood, lymph, and lymph vessels. Mammals are having a separate right and left ventricles present in the heart. Ventricles are separate so that pulmonary and systemic circulation occurs independently. The mammalian heart is divided into four sections.
Step by step answer: The mammalian circulatory system consists of a four-chambered heart, blood, blood vessels, lymph, and lymphatic system. In mammals, due to the presence of four-chambered hearts, double circulation occurs. Double circulation is a type of circulation in which oxygenated blood does not get mixed up with the deoxygenated blood. The veins carry the deoxygenated blood and pour the whole blood into the right atrium. From the right atrium, the deoxygenated blood passed to the right ventricle. The pulmonary artery carries the deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. Lungs play a vital role in circulation because in the lungs the exchange of gases occurs which means deoxygenated blood gets converted into oxygenated blood.
From the lungs, the pulmonary vein carries the oxygenated blood and drain the blood into the left atrium and from the left atrium the blood is transferred to the left ventricle and with the help of the aorta, oxygenated blood from the left ventricle gets distributed to the whole body.
In this the two types of blood (Oxygenated and deoxygenated blood never gets mixed).
So, the correct option is option D. All of the above.
Note: This type of systemic system provides abundant nutrients, oxygen and other essential substances to the tissues and takes away the carbon dioxide and other harmful chemicals from the tissues.
An advantage of double circulation is:
1. It maintains the higher blood pressure
2. It allows the greater flow of the blood to the tissues
3. It helps in creating more pressure to pump blood around the body.
