Solution

For minute hand 60 minutes =360360^\circ
40 minutes = 36060×40=240\frac{360^\circ }{60} \times 40 = 240^\circ and for hour hand
1 hr = 60 minutes = 3030^\circ
40 minutes = 3060×40=20\frac{30^\circ }{60} \times 40 = 20^\circ
\therefore For 5 hr 40 min.= 30×5+20=17030^\circ \times 5 + 20^\circ = 170^\circ.
Hence, required angle = 240170=70240^\circ - 170^\circ = 70^\circ
=70×π180=7π18= 70^\circ \times \frac{\pi}{180^\circ}= \frac{7 \pi}{18}
