Biology Question on Eukaryotic Cells

Subunits of 80S80S ribosome are

A

40S

B

60S

C

Both [a] and [b]

D

None of these

Answer

Both [a] and [b]

Explanation

Solution

Ribosomes are submicroscopic naked granular nucleoprotein organelles which were first seen by Claude (1941)(1941) but first studied by Robinson and Brown (1953)(1953) in bean root cells and Palade (1955)(1955) in animal cells. Ribosomes occur in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. In prokaryotes, 70S70S type ribosomes are found and they are divided into 22 subunits, ie, the larger 50S50S subunit and smaller 30S30S subunit. In eukaryotes 80S80S type ribosomes are found. They are divided into 22 subunits, the larger 60S60S and smaller 40S40S.
