Question

Question: State Fleming’s left-hand rule....

State Fleming’s left-hand rule.

Explanation

Solution

Hint : Fleming’s left-hand rule is a method that is based on the magnetic effect of the electric field. It is known that when electric current flows from a conductive wire magnetic field is generated around it hence derived that electric field is associated with the magnetic field and vice-versa.

Complete step by step answer
When an electric current-carrying wire is placed perpendicularly with a magnetic field of a magnet it is found that the wire experience a force excreted by the magnetic field and it was found that the direction of that force is perpendicular to the current flowing and also perpendicular to the magnetic field of the magnet.
This can be observed by Fleming’s left-hand rule in which the first two fingers along with the thumb are kept at the right angle to each other. The index finger suggests the direction of the magnetic field while the middle finger shows the direction of the electric current then the force exerted by the magnetic field can be shown by the thumb.

Additional Information
Fleming’s left-hand rule is very important for understating the working of an electric motor. The electric motor is a very important instrument nowadays. Hence for its construction, it is necessary to understand its working principle. Hence it can be said that Fleming’s left hand provides the principle of working of an electric motor which states that a current-carrying wire is placed in a uniform magnetic field it experiences force excreted by the magnetic field.

Note
It is to be noted that as described by the name Fleming’s left-hand rule hence only the left hand can be used to show it. There is another law known as Fleming’s right-hand rule which shows the working principle of an electric generator whose principle is electromagnetic induction.
