$5x - 3x = 5 - 9$
$2x = -4$
On dividing both sides by $2$ , we obtain
$x = -2$
$\Rightarrow$ L.H.S $= 5x + 9$
= $5 \times (-2) + 9$
= $-10 + 9$ $= -1$
$\Rightarrow$ R.H.S $= 5 + 3x = 5 + 3 \times (-2)$
= $5 - 6 = -1$
L.H.S. = R.H.S.

Hence, the result obtained above is correct.
