Question

Mathematics Question on Solving Equations having the Variable on both Sides

Solve and check result: 5x+9=5+3x5x + 9 = 5 + 3x

Answer

5x+9=5+3x5x + 9 = 5 + 3x
On transposing 3x3x to L.H.S and 99 to R.H.S, we obtain
5x3x=595x - 3x = 5 - 9
2x=42x = -4
On dividing both sides by 22, we obtain
x=2x = -2
\Rightarrow L.H.S =5x+9= 5x + 9
=5×(2)+95 \times (-2) + 9
= 10+9-10 + 9 =1= -1
\Rightarrow R.H.S =5+3x=5+3×(2)= 5 + 3x = 5 + 3 \times (-2)
= 56=15 - 6 = -1
L.H.S. = R.H.S.

Hence, the result obtained above is correct.
