We must know that sulphuric acid acts as acid as well as an oxidizing agent in case of halide ions but this ability varies down the group. Sulphuric acid acts as an acid with all the halide ions but it is not strong enough to oxidize fluoride and chloride ions. Hence we will solve this by considering the fact that how its properties varies in case of halide ions.

When a concentrated sulphuric acid reacts with a halide ion, it gives hydrogen ion to produce hydrogen halide. These hydrogen halides are in gaseous state and immediately escape from the system but we can see steamy fumes if they are exposed to moist air. This property is the same for all halide ions.
