The cell was first discovered by English scientists,Robert Hooke in 1665, which can be found to be described in his book Micrographia. One of his observations was from very thin slices of bottle cork. Hooke discovered a multitude of tiny pores that he named cells.

the Latin word Cella, meaning ‘a small room’ like monks lived in and also Cellulae, which he described the cock as made up of hundreds of little hexagonal boxes given a kind of honeycomb appearance.
