Represent the reflex arc with the help of a neat flow chart.
Solution
Reflex action is the involuntary action occurring where there will be instant response to the stimuli happen, this action occurs with the help of a neural pathway called reflex arc, whenever there is impulse the response happens immediately or instantly before the impulse reaches the brain.
Complete answer:
Reflex arc is the neural pathway which will be activated whenever automatically or immediately in response to any dangerous stimuli.
Reflex arcs are again classified into two types
1. Mono synaptic reflex arc
2. Polysynaptic reflex arc
In case of mono synaptic reflex arc it mainly involves 2 neurons, which are motor and sensory neurons, example for monosynaptic reflex arc is patellar reflex
In the case of polysynaptic reflex arcs where there is involvement of multiple neurons, along with sensory and motor neurons, there will be involvement of relay neurons in the pathway of the reflex arc.
In higher animals most of the sensory neurons doesn’t pass directly to the brain, instead they form synapse with spinal cord
This allows the reflex action to occur very fastly without entering the signals to the brain.
Most of the reflex arc mainly involves 3 neurons
For example if a finger is pricked by the sharp object, the pain receptors present on the skin activates and send the impulses to the sensory neuron, where from sensory neuron to the relay neuron in the spinal cord through synapse and relay neuron to motor neuron , where motor neuron send signal to muscle so that the person pull back the hand and reduce the damage.
Note: Reflex arc in turn again classified into 1. Autonomic reflex arc, which involves the affecting inner organs 2. Somatic reflex arc involves the affecting muscles., Usually reflex arc doesn’t require any thought output.
