These are pesticides which are found naturally in Chrysanthemum flowers. They have a mixture of six chemical compounds that are very toxic to insects. It is usually helpful in the control of mosquitoes, bugs, pests, flies etc.
These are also used on buildings, crops and ornamental plants. Pyrethrin is commonly found in spray pet shampoo and dust.
How does it work?
When an insect consumes Pyrethrin or touches it leads to Paralysis and ultimately death of the insects. to increase the effect of Pyrethrin it is usually mixed with other chemicals. The second chemical is known as Synergist.
Pyrethrin is derived from Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium.
Pyrethrin is usually cultivated at an altitude of 3000 to 6000 metres above sea level. It is done because pyrethrin concentration usually shows an increase when there is an increase in the elevation. These plants do not require as much water and can be grown in semi-arid conditions with cool winters.
It is preferably grown in dry soil with the lower altitude. These flowers were first introduced in Kenya and Eastern Africa. The processing of the flower to cultivate Pyrethrin is a lengthy process.
