Prove that : (sinA)4−(cosA)4=(sinA)2−(cosA)2=2(sinA)2−1=1−2(cosA)2
Solution
Hint- Here, we will be using formula a2−b2=(a−b)(a+b) and identity (sinx)2+(cosx)2=1.
To prove: (sinA)4−(cosA)4=(sinA)2−(cosA)2=2(sinA)2−1=1−2(cosA)2
Let us simply the left most side of the above equation, we get
(sinA)4−(cosA)4=[(sinA)2]2−[(cosA)2]2
Using formula a2−b2=(a−b)(a+b), we get
⇒(sinA)4−(cosA)4=[(sinA)2]2−[(cosA)2]2=[(sinA)2−(cosA)2][(sinA)2+(cosA)2]
Now applying identity (sinx)2+(cosx)2=1, we get
Now let us represent the complete RHS of equation (2) in terms of sine trigonometric function alone.
This can be done by using the identity (sinx)2+(cosx)2=1⇒(cosx)2=1−(sinx)2
Now let us represent the complete RHS of equation (2) in terms of cosine trigonometric function alone.
This can be done by using the identity (sinx)2+(cosx)2=1⇒(sinx)2=1−(cosx)2
Now combining equations (3) and (4), we can write
(sinA)4−(cosA)4=(sinA)2−(cosA)2=2(sinA)2−1=1−2(cosA)2
