The cells of parenchyma tissues are living and thin-walled. It is distributed in all the body parts of plants. The cells are loosely packed. These can help in healing the wounds and regeneration. The reproductive parts of plants are parenchymatous in nature. It provides support to the plant and also stores food in the form of starch. The parenchyma cells which have large air cavities are called aerenchyma and they provide buoyancy to plants and help them to float. They also perform many functions like – storage, photosynthesis, transport, protection, gas exchange, totipotent, buoyancy.
Parenchymatous cells are divided into many types – chlorenchyma, transfer cell, vascular parenchyma, storage parenchyma, prosenchyma, aerenchyma, epidermis, conjunctive.
