Complete answer:
Palm is a monocotyledonous plant but it shows secondary growth which is an increase in girth because of the division and enlargement of parenchymatous cells that are present in the ground tissues. It causes an increase in the girth of the stem and this type of growth is referred to as secondary growth. The thickness in the cell increases the volume of parenchyma cells and this increase results in the formation of additional vascular bundles. Palm constitutes a botanical family of perennial flowering plants that consists of monocots and they grow in the form of climbers, shrubs, or stemless plants which are commonly known as palms. They are restricted to grow in the tropical and subtropical climates and are commonly distinguished by their large compound and evergreen leaves which are known as fronds. They are arranged at the top of an unbranched stem and constitute an enormous diversity by their physical characteristics.
Palms are large trees consisting of evergreen leaves. These leaves are palmately or pinnately compound and are arranged spirally at the top of the stem. They are present at the base which usually opens on one side at maturity and consists of a tubular sheath. Flowers are generally small and radially symmetric which are either unisexual or bisexual. Sepals and petals are joined at the base and the stamens are separated with filaments and are attached to the pistil at the base. The fruit is single-seeded but some species contain two or more seeds in each fruit. palms cannot increase the width of a stem-like all of the monocots.
