Question
Biology Question on Reproductive Health
Ovulation in the human female normally takes place during the menstrual cycle
Just before the end of the secretory cycle
At the beginning of the proliferative phase
At the end of the proliferative phase
At the mid secretory phase
At the end of the proliferative phase
Solution
Ovulation takes place towards the conclusion of the proliferative phase, which spans from the 7th day to the 14th day of the menstrual cycle. During this phase, follicles develop, and at its end, the egg is released with a peak in luteinizing hormone (LH) surge. If the egg remains unfertilized, the corpus luteum, which forms after ovulation, degenerates and transforms into the corpus albicans. This marks the onset of the secretory phase. After the passage of 14 days post-ovulation, menstruation occurs, and the menstrual cycle begins anew.
