It is sanitation to prevent contact with feces by human beings, as is washing hands with soap. Sanitary systems are designed to protect human health by creating a smooth environment, particularly via fecal-oral route, that prevents disease transmission. For example, adequate sanitation may be used to minimize diarrhea, the principal cause of malnutrition and slow growth in children. Many other illnesses, for example schistosomiasis, ascariasis, hepatitis, polio, cholera, and trachoma are easily transmitted in communities that have low sanitation.

As an active citizen the role of us in relation to sanitation are given below:
(a) The benefits of sanitation should be made clear to the public.
b) We should help local companies cover all open drains and eliminate freely thrown disease-causing contaminants.
(c) Make sure that our habitats are safe (indoors and outdoors).
(d) Ensure the proper maintenance of the sewerage system in our home.
(e) We can report it to the municipality if we find a leakage or other issues in the sewage system.
(f) As an engaged citizen, our personal healthcare should be taken care of.
