Chemistry Question on Organic Chemistry- Some Basic Principles and Techniques

On complete combustion of 0.492 g of an organic compound containing C, H and O, 0.7938 g of CO2 and 0.4428 g of H2O was produced. The % composition of oxygen in the compound is _______.

Answer

Mole of CO2=Moles of C=0.79344\frac{0.793}{44}

Weight of 'C'=0.79344\frac{0.793}{44}×12=0.216gm

Moles of 'H' =0.44218\frac{0.442}{18}×2

Weight of 'H' =0.44218\frac{0.442}{18}×2×1=0.049gm

∴ Weight of ‘O’ =0.492−0.216−0.049=0.227gm

% of 'O' =0.2270.492\frac{0.227}{0.492}×100=46.13%
