Question: Name two fertilizers containing nitrogen and containing phosphorus?...

Name two fertilizers containing nitrogen and containing phosphorus?

Explanation

Solution

To make up for the deficiency of nutrients in the soil fertilizers are added. So, nitrogen and phosphorus providing fertilizers fulfil the scarcity of these macronutrients in the soil. These fertilizers help the plant to grow well and hence are used by farmers and home gardeners.

Complete answer:
Fertilizers are the chemical substances added to the soil for plant nutrition. Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) are required by the plants in large amounts. They are generally known as NPK fertilizers
Now, let’s see the fertilizers which contain nitrogen and phosphorus.
Fertilizers containing Nitrogen:
Urea-Ammonium nitrate (UAN) – This is a solution of Urea and ammonium made in water. They can only be used as liquid fertilizers. UAN 32.0 is the most generally used grade of the fertilizer.
Ammonium Nitrate N34 – It is a crystalline powder which ranges in colour from white to brown. This fertilizer is used in herbicides and insecticides. It is used to absorb nitrogen oxides and as a nutrient for antibiotics and yeast.
Fertilizers containing Phosphorus:
Di ammonium Phosphate (DAP) – This is the second most commonly used fertilizer. The farmers generally use this before sowing, since it is high in phosphorus content and helps in stimulating the root development. DAP is the most preferred phosphorus fertilizer. It is prepared by reacting ammonia with phosphoric acids.
Mono ammonium phosphate (MAP) – MAP is widely used to supply phosphorus and nitrogen to the soil. It is a solid fertilizer consisting of a maximum amount of phosphorus.

Note:
Fertilizers are only beneficial when they are supplied in adequate amounts. Excess of phosphorus fertilizers can inhibit the growth of mycorrhizal fungi. Also, you must remember that when the plant has enough nitrogen then only it can absorb phosphorus from the soil for the plant development.
