A Breed is a group of specific domestic animals which has homogeneous characteristics, behavior, or appearance which we can distinguish easily from other organisms of the same species. Breeds are formed due to genetic isolation and either it can be through adaptations, selective breeding.

Complete answer: The two types of buffalo breed are- Murrah and Jaffrabadi.
Murrah- It is a very important buffalo breed it is also called by names Delhi, Kali and Kundi. It is native to Hisar, Rohtak and Sind of Haryana, Patiala and Nabha districts Punjab districts and some parts of Delhi. The colour of Murrah is jet black and has white markings on the tail, extremities and face. When Murrah is lactating the average milk yield is 1500 to 2500 Kg. The first calving age is 45 to 50 months but sometimes it can take 36 to 40 months. It is one of the efficient butter and milk fat producers in India.
Jaffrabadi- One of the Indian heaviest buffalo breeds. It is native to Gir forests, Jamnagar (districts of Gujarat) and Kutch. Jaffrabadi is usually black in colour with a long body and very heavy horns. The average milk yield is about 1000 to 1200 Kg per lactation. These bullocks are very heavy so they are used for ploughing and carting.

Note: Usually farmers breed animals for increased production of meat, successful reproduction, and disease resistance, resilience to climate stresses, most often heat and drought. Animals which are very productive will intake high amounts of nutrition to produce desired goods like meat or milk as opposed to maintaining their bodies.
Animal breeding will use natural variation among animals. It is permanent yield and cumulative improvements in the population because when we select a trait it will be directly transferred from generation to generation.
