Question

Question: Name the two kinds of inertia....

Name the two kinds of inertia.

Explanation

Solution

Inertia concept was explained by Newton's first law of motion. This states objects travel in a straight line unless the unbalanced force acts on them. This is the resistant force offered by the body for the sudden change in its state of the rest or of uniform motion.

Complete step by step solution:
Inertia is the inability of the body to change its state of rest or of uniform motion by offering its own resistance. There are two types of inertia, they are inertia of rest and the inertia of the motion. Inertia is the ability of the object or the body to continue its state of rest when the external force makes the body to move. The example of this condition is, when we travel in the bus, and suddenly when the driver starts the bus and moves front, the objects or the body inside the bus move backward. This is because the inertia of the body to continue the rest condition even though the bus starts moving.
The second type is inertia of motion. It is the inability of the body or the object to continue its state of motion even though the external force causes sudden stop of the body. The example of this type of inertia is when the passenger moves in a bus and when the driver applies the sudden brake he moves front suddenly.

Note: Let us see the practical examples of inertia. The luggage is kept above the bus, car etc. by tying with the help of the rope. Because they may fall down when the drivers apply a brake or a sudden turn. After the external change, these luggage continue their state with the same speed in a straight line.
