Question
Question: Name the process and label it. , light, and carbon dioxide are required for photosynthesis to occur.
• There are different types of experiments to check for starch formation on two leaves. One of these experiments was known as the Half leaf experiment.
• In this experiment, one of the leaves is enclosed in a test that contains some cotton soaked with potassium hydroxide which absorbs the carbon dioxide. While the other leaf is exposed to the air. This setup is placed in light for some time. Later testing for starch in the two leaves, it is found that the exposed leaf contains the starch whereas the leaf that was kept in a jar down not contains the starch. This shows that carbon dioxide as required for photosynthesis
The part labeled in the diagram are:
- This is the leaf where photosynthesis does not occur.
- This is the leaf where photosynthesis occurs.
Note: The experiment was carried out to show that carbon dioxide, chlorophyll, and light are necessary to conduct the process of chlorophyll. If any of the elements is missing then the plant won’t be able to synthesize starch. This experiment helps in the understanding of the photosynthesis.
