Name the plant tissue responsible for carrying food to different parts.

Explanation

Solution

The abundance of this tissue can be seen in the leaves of the plant and also in the roots, stems of the plant so as to provide nutrients. They are composed of a network of different living cells.

Complete answer:
We all know that the plants have a network of vascular tissues whose functions are the transport food and water through the plant. The transportation of water is the responsibility of the xylem and the food department is taken care of by the phloem. Phloem consists of different parts like sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem fibers, and parenchymal cells. Food is prepared in the plants by the process of photosynthesis and the energy is provided by the ATP. The food is first taken in the sieve tubes which on the uptake gets filled with water due to osmotic difference and then the transfer of the food occurs to the place wherever it is required. This can be done in both upward as well as the downward direction, but the catch is that this transfer also requires the energy which Is taken care of by the ATP. The location of phloem in a plant stem is generally on the outer side of the vascular cambium and the xylem is situated at the inner side of the vascular cambium. These phloem cells after their maturation form the part of the bark and also the matured vascular cambium are useful in determining the age of a plant as they are the components of annual rings formed in plants.

Note:
The different part of the phloem cannot be considered alone as the carrier of the food from the leaves rather it is an organized process of all the components of phloem and together they perform it.
