Name the juice produced by the liver. How does it help in digestion of fats?
Solution
Liver secretes some kind of salt or juice which help in digestion of fats and lipid, liver not help in digestion of complex biomolecule but also help in storing of blood glucose when it exceeds in blood, stored in form of glycogen and when it required then it reconvert into glucose and then release into blood.
Complete answer:
The liver is the largest gland of the body that is just below the diaphragm and it is associated with the digestive system. It is divided into two parts and attached by falciform ligament. The internally structural and functional units of liver are called hepatic lobules which contain hepatic cells and also contain kupffer cells which are found in mammals. Liver secretes bile juice from hepatic cells, bile enters into the bile canaliculi which empty into small hering’s canals. A pear shape structure present just below the liver, is known as gall which stores the bile juice or bile salts. The left and right hepatic duct joined the cystic duct, which joins the pancreatic duct, together they will form a hepato-pancreatic ampulla which opens into the duodenum.
The bile juice is secreted by the liver, around 500 to 1000ml. Bile salts (sodium bicarbonate, sodium glycocholate, sodium taurocholate) that digest the fats in the intestine by emulsification process, that convert bigger complex molecules of fats into smaller molecules, that are named as emulsified fat. That emulsified fat converts into fatty acid diglyceride by the action of pancreatic lipase, further diglycerides converted into fatty acid and monoglycerides by the action of pancreatic lipase. Which further convert into fatty acid and glycerol.
Note: Lipase enzyme is activated by the action of bile juice, those mammalian kupffer cells of liver are phagocytic cells that eat worn out WBC and RBC and bacteria. Liver not only plays a role in digestion but also helps in detoxification of blood which is an important function.
