Using Monds process pure form of Nickel can be prepared from oxides of nickel.
Monds process converts nickel oxides into nickel metal with very high purity in just a single process.
Monds process contains three steps.
First step:
Nickel oxide ($NiO$) reacts with hydrogen at 200 ${}^{0}C$and gives nickel, together with impurities like iron and cobalt.

Second step:
The nickel with impurities reacts with carbon monoxide ($CO$) at 50–60 ${}^{0}C$and forms the gas nickel carbonyl ($Ni{{(CO)}_{4}}$, leaving the impurities as solids.

Third step: The mixture of nickel carbonyl and hydrogen gas is heated to 220–250${}^{0}C$ and results in the formation of nickel ($Ni$) and carbon monoxide ($CO$). $Ni{{(CO)}_{4}}+{{H}_{2}}\xrightarrow[{}]{}Ni+4CO$
