Chemistry Question on Some basic concepts of chemistry

Metal deficiency defect is shown by Fe0.93OFe_{0.93}O. In the crystal, some Fe2+Fe^{2+} cations are missing and loss of positive charge is compensated by the presence of Fe3+Fe^{3+} ions. The percentage of Fe2+Fe^{2+} ions in the Fe0.93OFe_{0.93}O crystals is ______ . (Nearest integer)

Answer

Let the number of O2O^{–2} ions be 100100
and the number of Fe+2Fe^{+2} ions be XX
The number of Fe+3Fe^{+3} ions be (93X)(93 – X)
X(2)+(93X)3=200∴ X(2) + (93 – X)3 = 200
279X=200279 – X = 200
X=279200X = 279-200
X=79X = 79
∴ % of Fe+2Fe^{+2} ions=7993×100=\frac {79}{93}×100
≃ 85%

So, the answer is 85%.
