Mention the functions of any two of the following used in communication system:
(i) Transducer
(ii) Repeater
(iii) Transmitter
(iv) Bandpass Filter
Solution
The process of to and fro of information is called communication. The major elements of the communication system are the transmitter of information, channel or medium, amplifier and receiver. We can use communication systems to explain the flow of the signal and study the elements of the system.
Complete step by step solution:
(i) Transducer: A transducer is a device that converts energy from one form to any other form. Usually a transducer converts a signal in one form of energy to a signal in another. Common examples include microphones - they convert audio into electrical signal , photodetector - they convert light signal into electrical signal.
(ii) Repeater: It is a combination of receiver and transmitter. In telecommunications, a repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal which is transmitted, amplifies it as required and then retransmits it. Repeaters are used to extend transmissions so that the signal can cover longer distances or be received on the other side of an obstruction.
(iii) Transmitter: A transmitter is an electronic device used in telecommunications to produce radio waves in order to transmit or send data with the aid of an antenna. The transmitter is able to generate a radio frequency alternating current that is then applied to the antenna, which, in turn, radiates this as radio waves.
(iv) Bandpass Filter: A band pass filter (also known as a BPF or pass band filter) is defined as a device that permits only frequencies within a specific frequency range to pass through it and rejects or block frequencies outside that range. The band of frequencies is the bandwidth of the filter.
Note:
There are two types of communication system: analog and digital
Analog technology communicates data as electronic signals of varying frequency or amplitude. Broadcast and telephone transmission are common examples of Analog technology.
In digital technology, the data are generated and processed in two states: High (represented as 1 ) and Low (represented as 0 ). Digital technology stores and transmits data in the form of 1s and 0s .
