Question: Mention the difference between spermiogenesis and spermiation....

Mention the difference between spermiogenesis and spermiation.

Explanation

Solution

The male reproductive cell is known as sperm. It is a tubular structure and has a head, middle neck and end tail which helps in its motility.

Complete answer:
The process by which male gametes are developed is known as spermatogenesis. The sperm is produced inside the male reproductive organ, i.e. testes.
The variou stages of spermatogenesis are,
Stage 1: In this stage the diploid spermatogonia present in seminiferous tubules replicate mitotically in the interphase before they enter into meiosis I
a
Stage 2: Here the chromatids allows the exchange of genetic information via the process of synapsis and is done before the spermatocytes divide in meiosis

Stage 3: Division happens and two new daughter cells are formed which further divide and four new spermatids are formed which are haploid in nature

Stage 4: The sperm cell moves into the epididymis and matures and develops into four sperm cells.

Now, let's look into the difference between spermiogenesis and spermiation.
Difference between spermiogenesis and spermiation.

Spermiogenesis: It is the process by which spermatids are transformed into spermatozoa. This is the final stage of spermatogenesis, and the spermatozoa is motile and matured.

Spermiation: The process by which spermatozoa is released into the seminiferous tubules from sertoli cells is known as spermiation.

Note: The various factors which affect the process of spermatogenesis are,
i) The process is very sensitive to hormonal levels and can be affected by minute changes in it.
ii) It is also sensitive to change in diet, exposure to drugs, etc.
iii) It is also very sensitive to temperature change.
