Megasporangium is equivalent to
Ovule
Embryo sac
Fruit
Nucellus
Ovule
Solution
Megasporangium is equivalent to the ovule. It is a structure that produces megaspores which further gives rise to the female gametophyte in plants. A megasporangium consists of a nucellus and an integument. Nucellus is the inner part of the megasporangium or ovule.
Megasporangium is connected to the placenta by a stalk called funicle. The outer layer that covers a megasporangium or ovule is called integument. Integument surrounds the nucellus. The point at the tip where integument is absent, is called micropyle. Opposite to the micropyle is the chalaza end that forms the basal part of the ovule. Embryo sac lies inside the nucellus. A functional megaspore develops into a female gametophyte.
