Mass of a body remains constant anywhere in the universe. State whether the statement is true or false:
A. True
B. False
C. Either
D. Neither
Solution
In the physical universe, all the material bodies have an inherent property which is the basis of motion and its existence in the form of matter. This inherent property is called mass of the body and it’s denoted by m , it’s the mass of the body which gains momentum while applying force on it.
Complete answer:
Let us first understand how this inherent property mass of the body reacts to the physical universe. When a body is at rest and it has some mass it’s called inertial mass because the body is in a state of inertia of rest and this mass is always constant.
Put anywhere in the universe we will see this inherent property mass never changes its same everywhere in the universe. When we talk about weight of the body, weight is a force on a body due to gravitational field and acceleration due to gravity and it’s calculated as W=mg since, acceleration due to gravity is different everywhere in the universe so weight of the body may changes in universe at different locations but mass remains always constant.
Hence, the correct option is A.
Note: We should also know that, In special theory of relativity it’s been proved that when a body of rest mass m0 which moves with a velocity v which is close to the speed of light, the mass of the body changes and it creases as m=1−(cv)2m0 where c is the speed of light.
