Question: List the various types of compound leaves....

List the various types of compound leaves.

Explanation

Solution

Compound leaves are those consisting of several or many different parts that are leaflets joined to a single stem. For example, rose, neem, baobab, desert cotton, etc. All the leaflets are joined to the main leaf through petiole and it shows complete division of lamina along the midvein.

Complete answer:
Leaves are known to carry out the most important task of the world, that is, photosynthesis which is required for production of food for plants and production of oxygen for humans or other animals. Leaves are the storehouse of food, water and production house. Different components of leaves are leaf blade or lamina, petiole and stipule.
We have mainly two types of leaves, simple leaves and compound leaves.
Compound leaves are further divided into two types:
Pinnate compound leaves: It is an arrangement of hair-like or multi-divided structures which comes out from the same stem which is joined at the petiole of the leaf. This structure occurs in crystals, such as some ice forms and in erosion or stream beds. Leaves which have pinnate structured lobes that are not differentiated, remain connected to each other at a common point and they do not have separate leaflets.
Palmate compound leaves: These are the leaves in which small leaves or subunits of leaf come out from the end of petiole, just like fingers of the palm of the hand in the human or limbs and forelimbs of animals.
These are the two types of the compound leaves.

Note: Simple leaves are those that have only one leaflet connected to the main stem. In simple leaf, the blade is undivided and does not have smaller leaflet units. Examples are mango. Guava, etc. And in compound leaves one leaf stem is divided into many leaves or smaller subunits of leaves. Example, Neem, Rose, Cotton, etc.
