List any three important steps to be kept in mind for successful bee keeping.
Solution
Honey hunting for wild bees nests was possibly popular in the ancient world, the Egyptians were among the first to try to hold bees in artificial urchins. Barges filled with colonies of Bees will fly up and down the Nile River after seasonal abundance of flora. As beekeeping practises spread, most ancient cultures are known to have kept the bees endemic to their regions.
Complete answer:
Beekeeping is the care and maintenance of honey bees for the production of honey and wax. In this process, bees are bred commercially in apiaries, an environment where a more number of bees can be grown. Usually apiaries are set up in areas where there have been ample bee pastures, i.e. places with flowering plants.
1.In order to achieve the expected results, be it the production of honey, the pollination services or other objectives, the beekeeper has to follow some important steps.
Suitable place for Beehives :The site should be dry, without dampness. High RH can affect bee flight and nectar ripening. Natural or artificial water supplies should be given. Trees act as wind belts in cooler regions. Hives should be put in a wind-breaking location, such as a fence, a shrub, a tree or a bush. Plants that produce pollen and nectar to bees are called bee pastures and blossoms. There should be plenty of such plants around the apiary site.
2.Basic Hive Equipment : Modern honeybee colonies are constructed to replicate the dimensions and atmosphere of wild (feral) honeybees naturally formed bees, with the added ability to remove individual honeycomb frames for inspection and manipulation. The measurements of the removable frames are identical in size to the honeycomb in the wild. One noteworthy feature is that the space between each frame, known as the bee space, is approximately 8 mm.This space is ample for the bees to move about but not large enough for the bees to create additional honeycombs in space, making it easier to remove frames.
3.Beehive Inspection: Beekeepers have to check their colonies about once every 10 days from spring to fall to ensure that the colonies have good nutrition, good health and enough space. The best time to check the hive is on a warm sunny day with little wind to keep the brood from cooling and to take advantage of keeping most of the field bees away from the hive.
Note: Bees also produce other products, such as beeswax through cell caps and old combs, used for high-quality candles, pharmaceuticals, lotions and friction-reducing waxes for ski boots and surfboards. Since ancient times, honey has been used to cure a variety of diseases and is an antioxidant, hence beekeeping is an important practise.
