LCD stands for:
A. Light carrying diode
B. liquid crystal display
C. long crystal display
D. light crystal displays

Explanation

Solution

Hint: LCD has two types of polarizer: a vertical polarizer and a horizontal polarizer. Vertical polarizer blocks horizontal light waves and horizontal polarizer blocks vertical light waves. If we will pass a light through a vertical polarizer then it will allow vertical waves and block horizontal waves. It acts as a filter. In LCD, liquid crystal is used which is sandwiched between vertical and horizontal polarizer which is operated by voltage. When we give energy to it, it aligns itself and allows the light to pass through it.

Complete step by step answer:
A liquid crystal display is a flat panel display that uses light modulating properties of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals do not emit light directly, instead use a backlight or deflector to produce images in colour or monochrome. They use the same basic technology except that arbitrary images are made up of a large number.
LCD is also called a liquid crystal display because these compounds have a crystalline arrangement of molecules, and they still flow like a liquid. Flat panel LCD’s commonly used pneumatic which is known as trade like liquid crystal compound that tends to keep the long axis of the rod shaped molecules aligned. In the LCD flat panel display two glass plates, each containing a light polarizer at right angle to the other plate, sandwiched the liquid crystal material.
Now talking about working of LCD, one glass plate rows of horizontal transparent conductors are built, and columns of vertical conductors are put into the other plate. The intersection of two conductors defines a pixel condition. Normally, the molecules are aligned in the ‘’on state’’. Polarized light passing through the material is twisted so that it will pass through the opposite polarizer. To turn off the pixel, we apply a voltage to the two interesting conductors to align the molecule so that the light is not twisted.
Hence option (B) is correct.

Note: LCD has lots of advantages. It is very compact, thin and light, especially in comparison with bulky, heavy CRT displays. It has low power consumption. Little heat emitted during operation due to low power consumption and it can be made in almost any size or shape.
