Cerebrum forms the two-third of the human brain and it bears the centre for sensory, motor and association areas. It is a part of the forebrain and is also called telencephalon. The other lobe of the forebrain is olfactory lobe or rhinencephalon.

Cerebrum has four lobes, each with specific functions.

1. Frontal lobe- It has an area for eye movements, area for controlling hand skills, area for head rotation, and the pre central motor area for controlling autonomic nervous system and involuntary movements. It also has Broca’s motor speech area which is responsible for speech and it is present in the left cerebral lobe.
2. Parietal lobe- It has the sensory association area that is associated with memory, learning and reasoning. The sensory speech area is also situated in the lower part of the parietal lobe that extends in the temporal lobe. It perceives the spoken word.
3. Occipital lobe- It is responsible for the perception and association of the visual stimulus and is hence entirely responsible for vision.
4. Temporal lobe- It has the Wernicke’s area or the auditory association area which is responsible for the association of auditory stimulus. This lobe is responsible for decoding and interpretation of sound, smell, memory and emotions.
