Question
Biology Question on Digestion and absorption
Lacteals absorb ________
A
Amino acids
B
Fatty acids and glycerol
C
Glucose and fructose
D
Amylose and maltose
Answer
Fatty acids and glycerol
Explanation
Solution
Fatty acids and glycerol being insoluble, cannot be absorbed into the blood. They are first incorporated into small droplets called micelles which move into intestinal mucosa. They are re-formed into very small protein coated fat globules called chylomicrons which are transported to lacteals in the villi. Lacteals ultimately release absorbed substances into blood stream
