The three varieties within the breed are jet black, golden, and pencilled. The breed's meat fat content is very low, only 0.73–1.03% compared to the 13–25% of most other chicken breeds. On 30 July 2018, the Indian government approved the meat from this breed and gave geographical indication (GI Tag).
