Jaundice is caused by the malfunctioning of:
A. Liver
B. Stomach
C. Pancreas
D. Kidney
Solution
Jaundice is a medical term which is used to describe the yellowing of eyes and skin. It is caused due to higher amounts of bilirubin (a bile pigment) in our system.
Complete solution
Bilirubin is a part of our normal blood composition and deals with haemoglobin. RBCs in the haemoglobin are cycled every 120 days, after which they are broken down and bilirubin gets passed onto the bile ducts present on the liver where it is processed and will be passed on to the small intestine to excrete through urine.
The condition of jaundice arises when there is liver malfunctioning which means that the liver will not function properly, causing the defect in removal of bilirubin from the bloodstream, which further causes the deposition of bilirubin in the body. This in turn causes the yellowing of the skin and eyes.
This can also be due to the liver disease called hepatitis, in which the liver is unable to utilize the bilirubin, which accumulates in the blood.
Hence, the correct answer is that Jaundice is caused due to the malfunctioning of the liver.
Note:
When the liver malfunctions, it is not able to process the bilirubin and it starts accumulating in the body which causes the yellowing of the body.
