Is there an age limit to male fertility?

Male reproductive organ is a pair of testes that produce about 100–200 million fresh new sperm each day. This means the human males have no risk of “running out” of sperm with age. However, there are a number of factors such as age which may affect sperm production or its ejaculation.

The causes of age-related male fertility:
As men get older, the risk of medical conditions also increases which affect sexual health and fertility. The medical conditions such as erectile dysfunction and cancers cause male fertility decline. With the advancement of age, the ability of the sperm to move and swim properly toward the egg decreases. Researches demonstrated that motility decreased by 8% per year. As males grow older the prostate and the epididymis also decreases that affect sperm mobility.
There is decreased seminal volume with age. Some reports show that ejaculated volume of semen changes 15–.2% every year. This accounts for 3–4% decrease in seminal volume over a 20-year period. This change is observed in men over age 45.However, some studies, on the other hand, show no difference in volume with age. Therefore, the impact semen volume on male fertility decline is not clear.

Note: Women are not the only ones who experience age-related fertility decline, but male fertility decline with age is less significant and less dramatic than what women experience.
