Question: Is there an age limit to male fertility?...
Is there an age limit to male fertility?
Solution
Reproduction is the basis of evolution. The male sperm and female egg fuse to form a new life inside the female body. This newborn will have features from both the parents as the genes are equally divided. The preparation of the body to produce gametes starts with the onset of puberty.
Complete answer:
The male start to produce their sperms or spermatozoa at the onset of their puberty at the age of approximately 11-13 years. Puberty starts at different times from different boys. Various physical changes occur in the boys when they hit puberty.
The males can have an active count of sperm throughout life or there can be some decrease. The decreased count can make it difficult for the female to conceive.
In females, at the age of 45 or 50, menopause occurs ceasing the menstrual cycle completely. Thereby there is no production of female oocytes. But in the males, there is no such pause on sperm production.
The count of sperm production decreases after the age of 40 or 45 so there is no upper limit on the age for fertility for males. Some of the men have a good count of sperm even at the age of 80 which is rare but not impossible.
Thus there is no such defined age limit for men fertility.
Note: The condition in which the male cannot produce sperms is called infertility. This problem can be overcome by the artificial insemination process. Sometimes the men cannot ejaculate the sperm, thus the process is done in the lab to artificially deduce them and fuse them in the female eggs.
