Question
Mathematics Question on integral
Integrate the rational function: x2+3x+22x
Answer
Let x2+3x+22x=(x+1)A+(x+2)B
2x = A(x+2)+B(x+1) ...(1)
Substituting x = −1 and −2 in equation (1), we obtain
A = −2 and B = 4
∴ (x+1)(x+2)2x=(x+1)−2+(x+2)4)
\Rightarrow \int\frac{2x}{(x+1)(x+2)}dx=\int\bigg\\{\frac{4}{(x+2)}-\frac{2}{(x+1)}\bigg\\}dx
= 4log|x+2|-2log|x+1|+C
