Now we know the resistance RR is directly proportional to the resistance of the wire ABAB and the resistance SSis inversely proportional to the resistance of the wire.

ii) In this case resistance SS is increased keeping RR constant. So the resistance SS is inversely proportional to RAB{R_{AB}}. Hence, when the resistance SS is increased the resistance of the wire ABAB will decrease so as a result the terminal potential difference of the cell will decrease. Hence the balance point will be at a shorter distance and it will shift towards the point AA.
