Question

Biology Question on excretory system

In the descending limb of loops of Henle, the urine is hypertonic, while in ascending limb of loops of Henle, the urine is hypotonic. Descending limb is impermeable to Na , while ascending limb is impermeable to HO.

A

If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion

B

If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not a correct explanation of the Assertion

C

If Assertion is true but the Reason is false

D

If both Assertion and Reason are false

Answer

If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion

Explanation

Solution

The ascending limb of Henle?? loop is impermeable to water so no water is reabsorbed with solutes (it is known as diluting segment). Due to which nephric filtrate become hypotonic in ascending limb. On the other side, descending limb is not permeable to Na and other solutes. But it is very permeable to water, making more water absorption from the solution, thus, the filtrate becomes hypertonic to plasma.
